Picking out the Upholstery

Tonight Jen and I met again with Monty our upholsterer.. He had some great design ideas to share with us as well as some more leather samples to look through. We're pretty excited to work with him. He knows his stuff really well. I can't wait to see how the interior turns out.

This is the color combination we're leaning towards right now.. The deep colors in the leather and carpet should really bring out the candy apple red paint color.

This is a door panel example that Monty created for us that shows what the door could look like. I like how the lines of the arm rest continue to flow through the panel.

Here are some of the color combinations we're looking at right now. Its really hard to imagine what the interior will look like from a 1" x 1" square of material.

Now that we've done our research, we need to finalize the colors and get a new seat!

This week we're going to be looking for a '95-'99 Chevy Silverado or Suburban bench seat. I want the truck to be able to have room for 3 people, so a bench seat with fold down arm rest would work out perfectly.

New pictures of the truck

Today we met with the upholsterer and picked out some material for the panels, seat, and carpet. I didn't get any pictures because the samples were too small.. Once we get a few larger samples, I'll post some pictures..

And speaking of pictures... I did take a few more of the truck while we were at the shop. We now have handles on the doors, and work has started on the window felt for the doors.

Whoohoo! The bed is now on the truck!

CHECK IT OUT!!! The entire truck is now painted! We have a matching set!!! Over the next month all we need to do now is get the upholstery in the cab finished, install the stereo system, put the oak floorboards in, connect up the lights, and throw on some chrome! Then we'll be ready to hit the streets!

Spraying the bed with Rhino lining

Today Eric sprayed the inside of the wheel wells and inner fenders with rhino liner. This should help protect the metal from rust and rock chips. I showed up just in time to get a few pictures taken before he sprayed the bed and fenders.. Check out the before / after shots!

Rhino liner was sprayed on the outer side where the fender will be attached for protection from rocks and debris thrown up from the rear tires.

We also have rhino lining on the bottom of the steps

Prepping the bed for paint

Now that the final coat of primer has been applied, the bed is lightly sanded and then wax and grease is rubbed onto the metal, followed by sealant, then a red ground coat. After that is the mid coat which is where the magic happens.. The mid coat has the candy / pearl color which gives the truck its sparkle. After the mid coat, 2 layers of clear coat is applied, then lightly sanded again and another layer of mid coat is then applied followed by 3 more layers of clear coat! Thats a lot of paint huh!

This is the bed after it was sanded.. Its now ready for wax and grease to remove any dust and debris from the metal.

Here Eric is applying the Prep-sol to prepare the metal for the ground coat.

Red ground coat has now been applied to the truck..

Next up.. Some sweet candy apple red pictures of the bed!

Final Primer on Bed!

The bed is finished now, and the last coat of primer has been applied. This weekend we should have a nice shiny coat of red paint on it!!

The inside of the bed looks really nice.. The inner tubs look like new! Its amazing since they were pretty beat up to begin with.

The steps and bed sides also turned out really nice.

These are for the cab, the inner window strips and ashtray..

Stay tuned! We should have pictures of the bed all painted up this weekend! :)
